Come and see me sometime on:

Friday 2 March 2012

I thought and then I did

I met an Englishman on Twitter.  He looked at my blog and saw (in his case heard) my signature and figured hey she's an American living in Britain and I'm an Englishman living in America and so he saved me on Twitter and then on here and then started emailing me.  Now I can be very nosey (hey before my MS I used to sell life assurance - that should tell you how nosey I am) and asked him some questions after he told me some stuff of his own accord.

We startet 'talking' on Twitter and then emailing and he told me quite about himself including the fact that he really wanted to be able to quilt properly.  Giles who is the Brit living in upper New York State presently and he has gone blind in one eye and has lost most of his sight in the other eye and is legally blind through having Diabetes for a number of years.

So I thought for about 10 minutes or so and then remembered Guidelines4Quilting, which I had seen  a few months ago, and figured hey I know what he could work with I think providing the ruler has notches on it - feelable notches.  Anyway I wrote to two people in this company called Guidelines4Quilting and would you believe it John who is one of the owners of the company, I think,  gave him the ruler and one of the guides for free just to see if Giles (his name is clickable to his blog).  So what did Giles get?

and once you have set the yellow part of the ruler to where
you want to - it's marked in increments of 1/8th inches
which is totally perfect

You put your fabric in close to the
yellow fabric guide and then hold down the ruler with whichever hand you don't cut with
(because you can be either right or left handed) and cut the fabric that is to the right
(or left - if you are left handed) of the guard which give you your 1/4" seam allowance too.

I don't think I've given you the photos in the correct order but please please go to Guidelines4Quilting's website.  I know I did and even though I live in the U.K. I have ordered this amazing ruler set.  I know it will help me with my quilting because of my MS but I probably should have ordered the bigger set but hey I have to stop spending sometime and I'm not sure my arm would reach to the top of a 24" ruler but I think it would be good for squaring up the fabric perfectly which I am useless at. But I can always go back to Guidelines4Quilting and order the same set again.

I know through Giles that John has contacted him again asking how he got on with what was sent to him and if he found it useful he would send him the rest of the set  John who is from Guidelines4Quilting such has a HUGE heart and I can't thank you enough for your generosity you are one wonderful human being.

Until next time ...

  3. Thanks for posting about the ruler and Giles.
My mother is low vision and also quilts. She has trouble sometimes cutting her stripes and we go through more fabric than needed sometimes. I will have to check out this company and the ruler for her.
    Have a great weekend.
